The former Governor of Katanga had been waiting for more than a year to take up his post as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the state owned railway company, Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer du Congo (SNCC).
The confirmation of his appointment was finally signed by the Minister of Portfolio and State Companies Clement Kuete Bemuna, on Wednesday 24 June 2020.
Kyungu was appointed to the position on 29 May 2019, by President Felix Tshisekedi; however a refusal by then Minister of Portfolio Wivine Mumba Matipa to authorise his appointment, meant that he could not take up office.
Gabriel Kyungu believed that there was a political motive behind the decision to block his appointment; according to him members of the previous regime of Joseph Kabila had looted billions of dollars from the state entity, and feared that once he was in charge he will expose the corruption that had been going on.
The latest notification from the Portfolio Minister, paves the way for Gabriel Kyungu to begin his new role as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for SNCC
