PRESIDENT FELIX TSHISEKEDI LAUNCH A USD450MILLION PROGRAM TO COMBAT THE EFFECT OF CORONAVIRUS
The program will see government spending USD50 million in a period of 9 months on various sectors, to reduce the negative impact the coronavirus pandemic is having on the country.
The government also hopes to mobilise resources from the country's partners.
Some of the measures to be under taken will include improving the health care system, maintain macroeconomic stability and implement an economic recovery plan.
In March 2020 government had already outlined an emergency plan to respond to the presence of the virus. Among the immediate decisions that was taken at the time, was to place a tax exemption on all imported pharmaceutical products, release medical supplies being held by custom officials and place a three months suspension on rental tax charged on companies.
President Tshisekedi called on all stakeholders to rally behind the initiative and instructed Prime Minister Sylvester Ilunga Ilunkamba to insure that the plan is effectively implemented.
By 19 June 2020, the Democratic Republic of Congo had 5477 confirm cases of the coronavirus, 122 deaths and 719 recoveries.
